Update. I found on a fb comment. This is what I did.
1. Unscrew box nut 1/2 a turn
2. install plug nut without copper washer. Turn to tighten.
No real force needed, gear just released easy.
One thing I near lost was the spring washer under the box nut when I reinstalled. It was still in the gear.
I also set timing marks prior to removing.

Excellent news Kevin, glad you got er off and kept the timing. I guess they have a
pump tech in Sabah or Sarawak, if all else fails, my go to guy in AlorSetar peninsular
Malaysia is “ Public
fuel pump company”, a long way from Kudat but a really good company.
I’m pleased but a bit concerned that the timer came off so easily, I find that gear or timer usually damn tight, my dedicated puller is fairly compact but brutally strong and still struggles against that little taper.
