Who Makes a Large Catamaran with Outboards

Only one I have found is the Kit Cat boats up to around 42ft.
They are made in ST.Petersburg Florida.
I like the idea of outboards for easy service and can raise the motors
for shallow water.
I see smaller boats like World cats but not larger ones like the

I imagine any of the builders/companies would be happy to set up an engineless production cat with outboard set-ups so's it could get an order... not just for the bucks.... but quite possibly to see if they can do cheaper options.... iys a buyers market... even for new boats..
Give it a try... you only lose the time it takes to send the E-mails.....

Re: Who Makes a Large Catamaran with Outboards

I've owned a Kit Cat for the last 4 years and cannot say enough good things about my boat. Mine is the power/sail cat. I repowered her in'09 w/ twin Evinrude 115's. She can power at up to 20knots and can sail at 7kts. Because of the 2' draft she is the perfect Keys/ Bahamas boat. We are always cruising those waters. Built w/ all aviation grade materials, there is not a stress crack anywhere on the vessel. She turns a lot of heads whenever we are running a 40' sailing cat on up on a plane. The only negative thing I can say about my boat is that she doesn't sail into the wind well.

Have a look at the Powershuttle 47:

Powershuttle 47 Motorised Catamaran

It started life as a 43' version and was then streched, I saw the 43' and loved the lines.

That is a cool looking power cat. Who makes that one?
I guess it can get into shallow water too with the motors up and would be nice to have them on Jackplates to
lift them vertical.

Re: Who Makes a Large Catamaran with Outboards

The downside with outboards is fuel consumption and increased risk of fire-which can be hotly debated in some threads. Another debatable point is the risk of theft if greater. Its very hard to steal an inboard. One great upside is added space below of course.

If you "really" had your heart set on outboards, there would be nothing wrong with going to a cat maker and telling them not to install the inboards. Then adding the outboards yourself. But when all is said and done, the majority of boats that size use diesel and that holds the resale value much higher than outboards. It also increases the size of the buyer market.

That is Ocean Marina in Thailand. I've visited there on several occasions.

I have some more pics of that boat if you would like to see them. During my last visit I found that the owner was having another one built for his charter trade, I arrived a little too early to see that one delivered. But I may know someone over there that can get an update. (I'm stateside right now).

And I have the owners info to contact about the possibility of having another built in Thailand.

Depending on your genuine interest in owning such a vessel, and your budget, I might also have a few other ideas for you.

I've had refreshments on a boat that's tied up near where that photo was taken. The view was familiar.

Diesel Outboards ?

Might be a little while in development, but how about these potential new diesel engines in an 'outboard configuration'.

Diesel Engine Manufacturers | Small Diesel Engines | Diesel Engines

A unique, power dense, modular, family of diesel engines
The core module is a 4 Cylinder, 8 Piston, supercharged 2-¬stroke diesel with a capacity of 3.6 litres that delivers up to 350hp (261Kw) per module; which can be scaled up or down in capacity and configured in multiple modules, depending on requirement. The engines can be specified in units of 200hp to 350hp,

Re: Who Makes a Large Catamaran with Outboards

For smaller cats I like the dual outboard approach. Relatively inexpensive and lightweight. Easy to replace etc. You have to be willing to go all solar or gen set I suppose though....
