Fiberglass takes the most neglect and can go years with little
maintenance. Many owners can
repair and maintain
fiberglass. While
steel is tougher, it requires proper barrier coats and at least yearly
maintenance of those coats. If allowed to rust, can be expensive to
repair.
Wood usually takes the least neglect and probably the most expensive to repair unless you can do the
work.
Cored fiberglass is somewhat insulated.
Steel has to be insulated or it forms moisture on the inside.Wood, depending on thickness is insulating. Old
wood fishing boats rarely have
insulation (except in the hold) and still are comfortable.
Whatever material,
insulation pays dividends in comfort. Especially in cold climates or hot ones.
