Re: What ocean crossing trawler fits onto a trailer?

Yes, was exactly thinking Willard 36. Very trailerable with the right rig. Range of the aft pilot house version is CA-HI

No problem at Salt Run in at Augustine. Just need to wait on the tide

I haven't been there, but looking at a satellite photo of the ramp it definitely does not look like the concrete goes out far enough for a 40' boat. Of course, looks can be deceiving, so I might be wrong. Nonetheless, before I backed a 40' boat down that ramp I would want to make VERY SURE!

I don't think i've ever seen a trailed trawler before. Is this actually a thing? I thought most boat ramps out have a real issue being able to support a boat that big. Hmm?

Respectfully, if is not just the width of the boat to take into consideration.

For many boats, the limitation in hauling is the height of the boat. Most trawlers will need to have flybridges and/or other parts removed before than are hauled in order to be moved on the highway.

Interstate bridges are 16ft, local road bridges generally under 12ft. If vessel is wider than 8.5 ft a banner stating "oversize load" is required. And if like the D16 cat dozers wider than 12ft - additionally flag cars are required. Sometimes daylight only travel - depending on the roads - incl tunnels and mountain passes.

My Dad was a heavy equipment trucker for almost three decades - he hauled everything from cattle to big dozers to coal shovel blades (16ft wide and tall) up and down the continental USofA highways.

thanks
I had come across an aluminum one, wish I could remember the MFGer.
I think they were 32ft. small aft cockpit and a center cockpit. Somewhat spartan but small diesel and huge tankage for a boat of that size. Not cheap $202,000 sticks in my mind.

"Very trailerable" is a stretch. They are very close to triggering the 13'6" height limitation and may take a wee bit of surgery on the flybridge. And, being a ballasted full displacement boat weighing in at around 25k lbs, they are pretty dang heavy.

BTW - Aft PH version carried 300g of diesel whereas the Sedan carries 500g. The W36 that went from CA to HI in 1987 (and back) was a PH version that carried a few barrels of diesel on her aft deck. She burned 330 gallons for the trip. It took 14-days as I recall and averaged around 6-kts. There are some cool pics listed at www.willardboats.org (all Willards, not just W36)

Look up Michael Kasten's Boojum 25 and 30. Built to be legally trailerable (8'6" beam) and ocean crossings.

Re: What ocean crossing trawler fits onto a trailer?

While I'm not sure about the 'ocean crossing' part, Great Harbour offer the Trailerable Trawler TT35 (https://www.greatharbourtrawlers.com/tt35.html) and Aspen the equally trailerable power proa C107 (https://aspenpowercatamarans.com/c107). Both are certainly good for offshore cruising at the very least, and as live aboard cruisers.

Another thing to consider if storm avoidance is the goal...while it's not that hard to get a permit for an oversize load under normal conditions.

I would definitely check on the availability during evacuations. I wouldn't be surprised if their is a clause that the permits aren't valid in the event of a storm event as they don't want to deal with oversize loads mucking up the roadways.
