Re: Starting alarm wont turn off

When did you last do an oil and filter change?
That too can affect oil pressure.

It could be that the the pressure switches are a little gunked up and are slow to respond to the rise in oil pressure.

I have noticed the same situation when starting my 18 year old diesel. Only when the engine is cold and the oil is thick.

Do you have pressure gauges you can watch the oil pressure increase. You could replace the oil pressure sensors if it annoys you.

+1 this is totally correct.

This is a good point.

And this could happen with either the circuit from the oil pressure switch or the coolant temperature switche since they (usually) use the same audible alarm.

Re: Starting alarm wont turn off

Oil level is good. We bought boat in June rarely used it and other owner with our blessing once we inspected boat changedoil because it needed. He was careful to ask us because he said some will change oil to mask other issues

Re: Starting alarm wont turn off

Naut Home did you ever determine which alarm is sounding? Do you have indicator lights or gages for all (oil pressure, Temp, charging)? Did the oil pressure gage increase slowly and the alarm stopped sounding when it reached correct pressure? Could be your charging circuit (alternator too) and once you increase RPM it reaches correct voltage.

Re: Starting alarm wont turn off

I running the boat now. Starboard alarm. It stays on now as boat idles. One of three batteries never fully charges. I installed batteries and a also having an issue with head flush button stopping and it seems that only after a few days of charge and I reset a refrigerator breaker button does it resume. I may have an issue with the batteries or that one in particular that never fully charges.

Oil pressure jumps immediately to 40 psi once started on engine alarm that stays on.

Re: Starting alarm wont turn off

I texted the former owner and he said Drive oil will also cause the alarm. That was it. I filled the reservoir and alarm turned. Off. Thanks for the help.

Yes Other one is hy the refrigerator breaker trips and commode button will not operate after boat ride. Then resumes working after a few days and breaker reset.

Re: Starting alarm wont turn off

Naut Home most likely two different problems. Reefer maybe tripping the breaker when it starts up, is the reefer working once it starts running. What kind of head is it?
