Re: Sonic Anti-foul Devices

For those interested-video of our hull after 1 year in the Chesapeake with Jaycar Ultrasonic Antifouling Kits (2 each) spaced at 20 feet and run round the clock using only millivolts. Solid fiberglass hull. Hull cleaned by diver before switching on the devices. Not a bad performance by two $110.00 DIY Kits in my opinion. We will be keeping these.

Re: Sonic Anti-foul Devices

These devises are actually Ultrasonic cleaners, meaning they make a solid surface vibrate at a very high rate. There are some ultrasonic cleaners on fleabay that can be used just for our purpose of trying to get the barnacles from attaching themselves to it. Cost is about $40 US, come with 2 vibrators and a control board and you must make a case for the control board as well as make a cup or something around each of the 'transducers' because of the high voltage they carry. Only available in 120v AC, none are 12v. Have not tried them but did purchase one of these. It arrived all busted in pieces because the 2 transducers were hammering the control board in transit. Never completed the project and comes with no instructions of where to connect any power in or out. May work well after all.

Re: Sonic Anti-foul Devices

I have almost given up trying to convince people of the big difference between no ultrasonic installation, a cheapo type unit and one with High Mass Transducers.

Believe what you want, but I can see the differences. Dead algae and no barnacles with almost no boat use for several months.

UltraSoniTec 4 channel model.

No financial, just a happy user.

And Senormechanico, as you have done, it appears correct installation of the transducers to the hulls is critical to get good results.

What convinced you to make the usd$2,000 leap of faith?
