Powered Inflatable Paddle Board
Hey guys this year I purchased an inflatable stand up paddle board that i could fit inside of a backpack and bike it to the beach, then unpack. Also got a trolling motor for the back end. We'll see how it goes.

In Florida you would have to license it and put numbers on it if you put a trolling motor on it, how about NY?

Yes, we do, but im not going to implement this. im also going to launch it at the beach which is also technically illegal within NYC limits. However the life guards said i could do it after 6pm and on unguarded sections of the beach.

That may technically be true, but I doubt you would be called on it.
At anchor the other day, just before dark two guys came by on what looked like small surf boards, that were foiling, with an electric motor to run them, looked to be going 10 to 15 kts.
Looked cool, wife looked it up and they were about $12,000.
Way too steep for me.
I doubt they were Fl registered, where or how would you display the numbers?

Re: Powered Inflatable Paddle Board
That looks to be a butt pain to inflate / deflate from a backpack.
On my boat I have a high-volume high-pressure air compressor that would be handy for inflation and a central vacuum that would do the deflation.

Those things inflate with the hand pump in less than 5 minutes.

I have seen yaks with trolling motors cited for lack of registration more than once. Plenty of places in Florida have strict enforcement. A lot depends on where you are.

Re: Powered Inflatable Paddle Board
This is sort of a continuation of last years thread on inflatables.. but in 2019 the requirements are slightly different... this is a new project...
Boat must be inflatable/deflatable to be transportable via bicycle since i dont own a car and for this project do not want to use mass transit (i live in nyc).
Relatively low budget so give or take 400 to 600$.
Stable on the water so min 11 foot. i ended up with something 11 feet by 30 in by 6 inches.
Powered by either oars or a trollling motor, electric.
The weight ended up being about 65 lbs... will post details later.. happy boating!

I think it ridiculous to have to register a paddle board. Home of the free?
But having a motor does mean that it is a powered vessel in respect to Rules of the Road/Collision Avoidance.
Confusing to other vessels too unless of course it displays day shape.

Re: Powered Inflatable Paddle Board
I need to build an engine mount to accept the trolling motor and possibly the small gas powered one. I think i may build it out of PVC tube.
If anyone has any advice on building an engine mount to hold both the engine and the electric battery, that would be much appreciated.

Re: Powered Inflatable Paddle Board
There are a number of electric motor options for SUP's on the market designed for the job that would be a lot lower profile than mounting a trolling motor on it.

I just inflated it. It was not easy or hard, took about 10 minutes or so. Its fairly stiff after inflation.
Now as far as the weight is concerned, im going to have to get a bike rack to take the battery on my bicycle because the weight of the board plus the pump and engine will be too much! stay tuned!
