Re: Power catamarans

Leopard 51: agreed the engine access from the bedroom looks like a poor design choice. Appart from the noise when running, imagine the smell if any issues with leaks or even while performing regular maintenance... Also I hate that for a 51ft there is not a dedicated helm inside.

Sunreef: Interiors look really impractical. They are also more expensive than any other brand.

Horizon: Good reputation for quality, not cheap. Also range seems quite limited. Again, no dedicated helm inside.

Aquila: I believe they have Volvo IPS drive...that is a no-go for many people.

Did you had a look at the Fountaine Pajot Powercats? The Cumberland 47 and Queensland 55 ? They have pretty much all the features you're looking for.

Also Bali Catamarans have launched a 4.3. Many complain about esthetic quality, cannot comment on the rest.

Also look for Nautitech (Bavaria) They have a section on their website for a Nautitech 46 Power...so I guess you can expect it in 1-2 years.

Re: Power catamarans

Bali 4.3 have just came out with a new interior option. Probably to make it look less tacky and bit more "high end"

My biggest gripe with the Bali 4.3 is that "garage door" Not sure how it will work after 2-3 years of use. Also the fact that you always have to open it if you want to use the cockpit seems like an annoyance. What about privacy at a marina? I guess you'll need to keep it closed most of the time...

Re: Power catamarans

Hi there,

I've posted on a few other forums looking for people's preference of power cats, but haven't gotten any replies so far. You all look like you have experience with the different brands so hopefully y'all have some insight you wouldn't mind sharing!

My family is looking to purchase a power cat to cruise the Bahamas with. We were looking at Aquila vs Horizon, but saw the Two Oceans 555 at a recent boat show. They said they were built in South Africa - looked like an impressive boat. However, they are a newer boat so I can't find much about them online. Do any of y'all know anything about the brand or the 555 vessel? Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!

Re: Power catamarans

A good friend has a Horizon PC 52. I've done about 500 nms on it. Very nice boat with high end finishes. His is a 2014 and early in the production run. Cruises at 18 kts at 36 gph which is pretty efficient for the speed. At displacement speeds, does around 8 kts and 4-5 gph total.

Resale on Horizons seems to be very strong as Horizon has a solid customer base who move-up through their product line. My friend has had his boat for about 5 years and can easily sell it for approximately what he paid for it minus upgrades.

Personally, I prefer the ride of a stabilized monohull, but there is much to be said for power cats

Re: Power catamarans

Longreach Powercats just launched the first LR58. The builder has been building powercats for many decades under the Powerplay brand.

The owner of LR58-01 has a few videos of the build on his YT channel:

Re: Power catamarans

Love power cats, perfect ride and a lot of space. Just a bit out of our price range.
