outboard motor lift

Last several years i have been lifting my 15 HP Honda off my dingy and wrestle it on to my outboard motor mount on my transom of my bayliner. Well you guessed it! getting too old and it's too heavy to do this any longer. I'm surprised I haven't dropped it yet, or smashed a toe.

How do you guys hoist your dink motor off/on?

I feel for you.

Last time I dealt with this was only a 3 1/2 motor, but small dinghy made it more difficult as it bounced around more.

But this gear, while looking good, seems to depend on using a halyard.

What are you going to use on a Bayliner?

What are you going to use on a Bayliner? I have a radar arch. i use now to hoist the dingy on the davits.
it should pick it up off the motor mount ok.

That's a beast of a motor. I like that design you linked to. I have found the normal little cranes to not reach far enough out to make things easy. That looks better. Not sure how you lower it though? You may need a post with a tackle on it.

I have looked at most of the Davit crane type set up. Like previous said, they don’t reach out far enough to easily mount on dink.
One mfg offered to extend the mast pushed the price over 1K.
Another said to mount the crane on corner of deck and load off side of boat.

Neither appealed to me. Then I found swing lift. Made for use off stern of sailboat. I can make this work attaching to my radar arch for lift. Then let it “swing” to mount on dink.

I’ve seen that set up before. I use a manual fiddle block the pull my dink onto the weaver Davits.
The differences I trailer my boat. Have to remove the motor to do that..

What mount did you use to attach the OB to the transom?

In the past I would just man handle it and lift it onto swim deck. Lift and move it onto the mount.

I could get a smaller,lighter ob. Don’t/can’t want to lift any longer..

Swing lift looks good to me.

I bought a ATV 12v winch with a remote control.
made an A frame as a control point with ss Bimini parts.
Works great on me Sea Ray 30

We use a Garhauer hoist on the back of our sailboat. Its great for hoisting the outboard on and off, as well as lifting full jerry cans of fuel from the dinghy onto the boat. My back does not like that job anymore.

The Garhauer is very well made and very reasonably priced.

Not sure how you use your dinghy but another solution is to go electric, the motors are substantially lighter. Epropulsion seems to be gaining ground, a newer offering but folks seem to like it. You could even use a trolling electric motor.
