where exactly is this cracked rib? I bet port midship.
theres many cracked ribs, mostly around the bulkhead area, I'll try to get another pic tomorrow.
I think the pic you asked about is the port floor support aluminum broken near the bulkhead. broken between 2 rib sections, so a lot off floor was unsupported, probably caused by the wood rotting and the floor flexing inboard/outboard.
it's the piece of vertical aluminum running from the engine to the cabin.
tomorrow I hope to start applying gluvit to the rivets and seams below the water line.
I had to replace 7 rivets with stainless bolts because the previous owner butchered the repair with galvanized hex bolts.
Once that's watertight, the sole goes back in and I start on the transom

Re: new here Steve from AL anyone cruise in aluimin

Had friends with a marionetter 32'. At the time we had a Silverton 31'.

In rough conditions we were a little better comfort wise but they had smaller engines and were usually faster with better MPG.

Really nice boats.

What I refer to as bulkhead is the latitude surport (the dashboard).
“vertical aluminum running from the engine to the cabin. “
The long longitude stringers don’t appear to be touching the cracked ribs.

The islander’s stringers maybe build differently from the Chieftain however they should be attached to ribs.

The main function of any boat is to have stringers connect to ribs.

Chieftain stringers are single revitoed to each rib the stringer is actually a Z brace.

I have fabbed a second Z and attached it to the outside of each stringer then double revitoed to stringer.

When you apply the gulvit is that just a drop over each revito?

Really nice boats.
22' is about my limit at the few ramps I use.

I trailer each cruise, maybe when I relocate to Gulf coast an have a dock a 28'
marionette would be nice

8 cracks some ribs with multiple cracks
Yes the z brace flexed so much it broke
The gluvite will be painted on to each rivet and along the ribs, that's what I've seen done online.

The pod thing is really interesting, maybe a longer water line will improve mileage and handling.

This was a bigger flybridge boat with an 11-12' beam...not towable from a practical point of view.

Re: new here Steve from AL anyone cruise in aluimin

macaco the welds look excellent, is the grey stuff the gulvit.

now I see the cracks at the freeboard bottom floor connection I will be slowing down significantly because of you, that's until I reinforce the mid ships structure.

yeah I wouldn't want to tow more than 30' unless it was very close like a few miles close. like isn't there a limit to what I can tow around the neighborhood

and on the expressway? like a 32'marionette minus fly bridge
can be towed w/ regular 3500 series tow vehicle

I have made progress on the flotations skins mount points. so I'm fabbing up the skin.

I estimate 1.5 cubic feet which is 90LBs of floatation per side total floatation of both pods =180 + the engine pods 1 cubic feet grand total 240LBs basically reducing my engine weight by more than half. going by i cubic foot =s 60LBs floatation.

and hopefully raise water line at rest.
right now I'm measuring the pods skin.
