Need Info on Boating the Mississippi

I want to hear from people who have powerboated the Mississippi. I'm especially interested in serious sightseeing in St. Louis and perhaps sister cities on the Illinois side, so I want to hear about marinas where I might get a bus or otherwise connect with the city and its public trans. Boat is 45 feet and I want to spend a week or more exploring St. Louis arts and culture. I could also rent a car if that is best alternative.
