Re: motor yacht advice

Here’s one to consider! You could easily buy a nice yacht for around 2-300K and……………..buy 2! Keep one in the med and one in the Caribbean. Just a thought. You can buy a lot of yacht for this money. And as you are not crossing oceans. You have a lot more choice

Our plan is to spend winters in the Caribbean and summers in the Mediterranean, so I am looking for something suitable that can handle the ocean crossing twice a year.

Would you all have any recommendations for Ocean Yachts or Class A rated motor yachts? I am not looking for a super yacht or to spend millions, and I don't need a huge yacht as its just the two of us most of the time. However it seems most of what I have found is very large and marketed towards high end luxury.

Ideally my budget would be around $500-600K, is it possible to find something rated for ocean crossing in that price range?

Hi Sharked,

I think a potential candidate for you is a Hatteras 48 LRC. I happen to own one so I'm prejudiced. My wife and I have cruised her full time for 5 years, currently in the Caribbean since 2019. This will be our third hurricane season here.

She's full displacement, powered by 2 Detroit 4-53N engines. Ours has 2 gensets and loaded with other equipment with full time cruising in mind. She has a range of over 2000 miles so she could be the right boat for you although you might consider either bladders or converting the wing water tanks to fuel - some guys have done that. With a water maker there's little sense in storing 430 gallons of fresh water!

We're considering returning to land so if you study the vessel and are interested, give me a shout and we can talk.
