MD21B volvo pent water pump

Hello members,

I am in NSW Australia and looking for water pump or kit replacement for a MD21b Volvo Penta, dealer said the pump housing is obsolete. Any information to help would be great.

We are snowbirds , north in summer south in winter.

I believe I have the complete housing in FL.

Free ,,just postage but I can't check till after 4 Nov .

Some folks simply install a bait well DC pump , better than a fresh water pump as usually a bigger long duty motor.

Can you find the seal ? or kit with few O Rings
Recently had a raw pump failure , Gas engines , No indication this was occurring since there was enough water circulating not effecting cooling ( gauge was within normal) but salt spray did damage too costly Volvo Penta electrical , starter , alternator ,
Weeks earlier noticed a strange smell in engine room , like rotten eggs , Could not see anything
Start of my water pump">raw water pump issue ,
In my searching others described the smell as rotten eggs , which was dry salt
I have 6 cylinder engines , Raw water parts available, .
Searching CL , (small world) a guy at my marina was selling VP water pump , Hundred bucks , so that was deal , and got that problem fixed but damage it caused was thousands ,
I was on UTUBE viewing a guy changing his seals on his raw water pump , fairly easy ,
IF you can get parts you may have no options too change seals ,
Here in States Volvo Penta parts are hit & miss , Last few weeks I needed seal kit for drives , NO kits , Individual parts making a kit , took weeks ,
No after market and nothing coming in from China , Sierra

There is a on line company , States , Marine Parts Express , they have extensive VP inventory , knowledgeable ,

Both salt water and coolant pumps can be rebuilt with non-Volvo bearings and seals. In the US I have no problem getting parts. A company that rebuilds pumps should be able to rebuild yours.
One option is a belt driven pump and another option is an electric pump with similar flow rates.

Thanks for the feedback, I am heading out to the boat today to pull the pump of with the intentions of overhauling it. I will let you guys know how I go and maybe it might help someone else out if they were in the same position.

Hi all,

So I ended up cracking the housing trying to remove the bearings, I have ordered a new pump from a company in Australia called AmBoss they import them and in and send them out by mail. It was a little more money than I wanted to spend but it will be back on the water soon, thanks for the feedback.
