Intershield 300

Dear sailors,

I am in the process of painting the underwater hull. We removed antifouling and gelcoat. The boat do not have osmosis. I am wandering if Intershield 300 is an appropriate primer for direct application on fiberglass hull.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Why did you remove the gelcoat?

Re: Intershield 300

The boat is 35 years old and an antiosmosis treatment was done in 2003. When they did the Job, the material did not stick well in some places, so I ve decide to remove it.

Re: Intershield 300

Good afternoon, I recover this post because I find myself in the same situation. My boat is sanded to gelcoat, ready to go with the treatment. The gelcoat was in perfect condition.

A professional painter has offered to give me the following:
- Intershield 300 A + B Epoxy
- Intersleek 731 A + B Primer
- Intersleek 110SR A + B + C silicone

And the truth is that I have many doubts.
Is the Intershield 300 aluminum epoxy primer suitable for gelcoat? Can it negatively affect the metal parts of the boat? Stainless steel and bronze

Like hempel's silic one, can this International treatment be used successfully for shafts and propellers? My engines run at 3200 rpm at maximum.

Well, I hope someone can help me.
Thank you

Re: Intershield 300

Thank you very much for the information provided.
Today I contacted a local dealer and he has spoken with an International dealer.
He has told us to change the intershield 300 to a standard epoxy primer, because the intershield 300 is more metal-focused, to avoid corrosion.
For example i can use Interprotect by international or light primer or hempadur by hempel.
We will get to work.
Thank you
