Re: How hard to find slips/marinas for boats > 40 feet?

Already been said, but I know a couple of people with electric propulsion in their sailboats.

They both love to sail, are great at sailing in light winds, and are retired so aren't on a schedule.

It's perfect for them - they sail most of the time anyway, can use the engine to get out of wind holes and into/out of marinas and get regenerative charge while they are sailing. I can't imagine doing it with a trawler.

Having said that, there are a few people who stripped off the rigging of a sailboat and covered it in panels for electric propulsion, but they mostly do local cruising.

Use solar power to condense water and CO2 out of the air.
Use solar to electrolyze the water to get H2
Use solar to crack the CO2 to get CO
Use solar via the Fischer-Tropisch process to get Hydrocarbons of the desired chain length.

Too complex and heavy to do on a boat but doable ashore.

Wow. Wouldn't the mythical current bush be just as plausible, and just plug it in?

I havn't seen one reference here to " pedal power"....y'know hook up a stationary bike to a generator/alternator...and pedal like hell....um......could work...sorta...maybe...uh...probably not.....but what the hell, you'll burn some calories....
sheesh...why is it always me that comes up with these brilliant ideas...
