Interesting site, although I find the suggested bid laughable in many cases. Nice Freedom 45 on there.

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

Here is a thought. Buy a sailboat, but only use the engines like as if it was a trawler. These sailboats have to two masts, which means the masts are shorter for going under bridges than those with just one mast. Also, in a hurricane a sailboat is much preferred because of the keel, and the cabin has less exposure to the wind forces. These sailboats have enough berths for your family. It might be worth a look?

I've heard you can buy 65-75% of asking prices. Just have to know how to negotiate.

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions and info. I was out of town yesterday and most of today and couldn't respond to any posts.

I definitely will get a survey. The diesel mechanic suggestion was also a great one, will do for sure.

I couldn't do a sail boat. I don't have the passion for sailing, but more importantly the space just isn't the same.

Gulets are very interesting boats, but I staying away from wood hulls and I've heard they are really more about cruising the Med than serious travel and not very seaworthy.

I am actually aware of the Trawlerfest. I may be heading down to Florida for it at the end of the month. I am also thinking of viewing a boat while I'm there that I think will make a very good match. Will anyone else be heading to the Trawlerfest?

I'm confused. Is who a blonde? DeckOfficer I presume, since that's the post you replied to. No, he's not blonde. Last I checked he was brunette with a healthy six pack. But I'm sure he could go blonde if you asked nicely enough.

No longer Overwhelmed!!!

OMG!!!

I can't belive that I am about to say this, but after almost a year of searching and research, I think that I have found my boat. Of course, I still need to, view in person, make an offer, survey, etc., but I am so excited I can't stand it. I really do think this boat will work for me and my kids. I don't want to post the link yet, but it is a trawler, it has 4 staterooms, it's within my budget and most importantly, it is ocean crossing capable. The only drawback is that it is not located at all close. If anyone can recommend a good captain that you have personally dealt with for delivery I would appreciate it. I would love someone who is kind, patient, and willing to teach, and someone who will not be condescending to me as a female.

Thanks.
