I've actually seen every single boat on Yachtworld. I've also seen most of the Venture Yacht boats.

The only one I like is the Sea Ranger in San Diego. I've been trying to get my Mom on board with this boat for months. She feels it is too big at 75'. I think we could get away with it, but not sure. Love the raised pilothouse and 5 states is perfect. Plus, seems they have repaired the stabilizers which is great. Thanks for posting these

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

GG take a look at PassageMaker mag. oct. issue pg 79 about the costs of old boats. In my 50+ years and 30 boats experience I find some of the estimates lite. A experienced boat yard owner and shipwright once told me it is easier to build new than repair an old boat(20 + years). With an old boat you first have to pull it apart and remove stuff before you get to putting in the new. Most boats are not made to allow for easy upgrades and repair. Usually while doing this all kinds of hidden damage is discovered adding to further time and expense. I once started a four thousand dollar job that ended up costing over $80,000. Surveys are helpful but not always 100% there is a lot hidden to inspection and all surveyors are not created equal and fully capable. If you are looking for a floating condo you can leave a lot undone but if you intend to do some long distance travel you would be wise to have a fully found vessel and with a 20+ year old boat that becomes an expensive proposition particularly if you or your crew can not provide the labor or expertise to do the work without resorting to boat yard labor fees and write ups. If you are lucky enough to find a boat where a knowledgeable previous owner has done all and now has to sell well that might work for you.

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

A few more boats. The first does not carry much fuel, but is probably displacement hull because of the size of the engines. Top speed does not seem realistic and GPS speed could determine if speed is accurate, or else does it get up and plane? The second probably needs work judging from price. Who knows about these without looking.

Mediterranean Yachts 1987 Motor Yacht
Manufacturer: Mediterranean Yachts, Year: 1987, $569,900.00 in NC, USA

Planet Yacht - 66' Cheoy Lee 66 Long Runner
66' Cheoy Lee 66 LRC, $ 374,995.00, Year:1979, League City TX United States

The 2nd looks like it has/had a leak problem also.

Hey Jeff,

Getting close. The lawyers are preparing my house closing now. Should close by the first week in Feb. My bday present

I have 1 more boat to look at, then I will make an offer on one of 3 potentials. Guess it will all boil down to price and condition.

Thanks Phil!!! You have been very supportive through this process and I really appreciate it. I'll post more details once I get closer to an offer. Just working now on getting my furniture sold and kids clothes sorted. Definitely won't fit it all on the boat It's a great feeling to get rid of stuff.

Leaving the dock in a 'new to you' large boat as an inexperienced owner/skipper could be the absolute worst experience of your families' life. It could also very well be the absolute best experience you and your family will ever have. Do it now so in 10 years you won't be looking back and saying "if only".

I wish you fair winds and calm seas for you and your family.
