bowmar portlights repairs

I have 3 Bowmar opening portlights on my Mainship 400 (2004). Three of the 6 screw down "dogs" have broken off at the spot weld on the frame of the port. Has anyone else experienced this and what is the remedy? Can they be rewelded without removing the portlight?

Re: bowmar portlights repairs

Never used Bowmars, but welding creates too much heat for the bedding compound and whatever the port is up against. Even on steel or aluminum it would cause paint blisters and may warp the metal. On fiberglass it could cause a fire.
I would contact Bowmar. See what they say. Maybe they would give a discount on new ports.

Re: bowmar portlights repairs

If they are truly spotwelded that sounds like a defective weld.
