Re: What's the Worst Piece of Advice You've Ever Received ?

I couldn't.

I was on my hands and knees at the desk just outside the elevator. Pushing.

I delivered about 12 minutes later...

"You must have a windlass for traveling the ICW." Spent over 900 usd for a Lewmar electric winch and hundreds for wire etc. Sold it after using it less than half dozen times. Sheesh!

"These old diesel engines are easy to fix."

A wasted and 6 months and $4k later I realize I need a new engine.

If that's the worst advice you ever got, what was the best?

"Never give advice, never take advice"

Now, that's good advice.

Bummer. A real thread-ender.

Off course, folks like that learn mostly by peeing on the electric fence and playing jacks in the street. Yes, I have a teenager .

Worst advice? "Just bear off in the puffs in a squall." This is generally from people who have never experienced a real blast, ripped a sail, or pitchpoled a boat. Better, reduce canvass. A lot.

naw.... no chance to reef... THIS squall blew up with no advanced warning. First signs of the incipient storm were only a coupla hours before... and that sail is not one that can be reefed inna jiffy!

Honest. Really. First babies are NOT supposed to come in 3 hours... a month early...

Like a hurricane in May...
