I'll second that one. I got my clock cleaned. $50k down to $12k and never recovered.
Oh yeh, forgot to mention the 3400 shares of NHC that are now effectively worth $0 but the bank will take them off my hands for the usual $29 trading fee.

You don't need that much scope to anchor here.

I love the answer to: "Why are nautical miles longer than statute miles?" I shall give that explanation to the next eight people who ask me that question.
(Of course, no one asks me anything anymore. ;~p)

I'm from the goverment and here to help! (from the IRS)
This won't hurt at all! (from the dentist)
Should only take 2 hours labor to do this! (from most contractors)
That anchor will hold you in a hurricane! (to that guy down on the beach in VA)

"Go ahead and marry her. If it doesn't work out, you can always get a divorce". That was about 20 years and $ 500,000 ago. Just THINK of the boat I could have had today.

Screw hurricane season, just go and watch the long range weather, I didn’t take it but know someone who did and lost their boat on the Baja to a hurricane.

Re: What's the Worst Piece of Advice You've Ever Received ?
Got this advice from mechanic of simpson bay diesel in st-maarten. Not knowing much about mechanic at the time, I looked at the water comming out of my new motor compared to my used one and man more than half the amount comming from the used one, I asked nicely, is this normal, his answer, ohhh there should be no problem, do not worry. Sailed back to oyster pond where I met a friend Ton a mechanic that does lots of jobs and he said don't even start the fore he sees it. Next day came aboard, opened the heat exchanger and surely it was clogged to the point that I might have blown the motor.
