Judy hasn't replied so may I chime in? You can toss your "bread flour" if you buy some gluten powder. It produces close to the same result. You need about a tablespoon per 4 cups of all purpose flour. You still go through the same amount of flour though, so if bread flour is easy to source it is best to stick to that .

The wheel steering. Makes kind of neat yard ornament which is about all it was good for.

Why don't you get a mill and make your own flour? It will be much higher nutritional value, the grains last much longer.

Funny about the dragging comment -- where'd you put the extra solar? My amas are as full as I want them to be. I'm thinking of adding some panels to the aft rail.

Re: things you've tossed off the boat that others think are necessary
our boat is pretty basic. Things I've added:
Pasta machine (life is too short for crappy pasta)
set of crystal wine glasses (yes - wine does taste better and we don't use them every night)
electric mainsail winch (big boat - wife can't haul me up the mast)
mast steps
dutchman reefing system
aries wind rudder system
we'll add more as we get closer to our RTW, including pedal power water supply, radar, watermaker, solar, more batteries, bigger generator on the engine, inverter, new prop, new dinghy (lots or money)

Re: things you've tossed off the boat that others think are necessary
If only you guys had all talked to each other beforehand would have been a great swap meeting .
I think the big value of this thread is to demonstrate to newcomers (I hate the term Newbie ) that their is not any actual "best" on anything boat related - and certainly not on the equipment to have onboard.....
......It's all about choices based on own needs and experiances (and simply wants ), so no one else can tell you what "you" need (and everyone changes at least some of their own ideas anyway over time)....
......starting out that doesn't exactly help ya , except to forewarn that you will to some extent be taking a WAG and that your ideas / needs / wants / will change as your experiances inform you (stuff on and stuff off), so at the outset you need to make choices based on that certainty....
.......the "best" others can do is to get you into the ballpark so can make own choices / WAG's ......and for a head start on that the "collected wisdom" of CF on Cruising Equipment is in Excel via the link in my sig (E & OE ).

Boiling it all down, in my pressure cooker, I need to just toss the dock lines and go. Thanks for the reasoned "push".

Six pack of beer, sorta like a dowry. Not a bad idea.

Moved in land, got rid of the Ericson, sure do miss her.
But I didn't need the rail mount grill.
Steel coat hangers( rusted go figr)
Leather shoes (turned green)
Motorcycle jacket (it turned green in Antigua)
a box of Rusted Tools
a Rusted caliper (I thought a caliper would be a good idea)
paper charts on the Potter, replaced with plasticized fishing maps

I really hate it when I know the solution and it is staring me in the face.
It's like, (duh) why didn't I think of that! Glad to have CF to share information and solutions!
