Boat bashing...nawh...im over that. Too many options and I re found my love for speed. But fins and keel bolts still scare me.

Sail Monkey,
I am new to this Forum so excuse my "newness". But based on your much earlier posts, I cant see how you changed your tune so quickly. You were pretty blatent about your feeling on Hunters. I wanted to say "well a Hunter sailboat does not want you either". So I glad to read that you have lightened up.
Carma is a strange thing. I would not be surprised at all to hear that you brought a Hunter. But for some reason, if you did, I dont think we would hear about it.
BTW, I own a 1981 27' Hunter Churb. She is built like a brick out house and fast to. Reading this thread reminded me why I hang out in Hunter Forums.

The older hunters r definitely worth checking out. I think some newer models have gluey ikea interiors. But I think all manufacturers are worth a consideration and don't spin too many wheels thinking about it or you will go crazy with variable-itis

I knew this was gonna happen. A while back Chief Engineer had a post up about parting out a Hunter and I knew that was gonna tip Don over. He had to get one before Chief could part em'all out. Good luck Don! Now lets hear some cruising tales! Or atleast rigging and diesel stories.

can put a spin it as ............ look how fast the boat recovers from a knock down!
Wonder if I turn the volume of my computer on it would tell what this was all about? But then I don't see any reason to know.

Will do once the 2+ feet of snow/ice on the boat melts and the new season starts. Based on past threads and postings I guess I should expect my mast to bend in half, my rudder to drop into the ocean, and the boat not being able to sail except on a specific 10 degrees point of sail.
Seems lots of people want to really understand this "Hunter Hate" thing based on the 8000+ thread views on this one for me to to try to remember to come update later in the year.

Hunter Cherubini 37 Cutters Rock.....
but like any other boat in the world... there's things about it that were annoying... but definitly not its perfomance or ocean crossing ability..

There are lots of HH's out there (Hunter Haters), I have a 1981 27, 7000# empty, is in perfect condition, all origional gelcoat except had to repaint the non-skid. This is no less than my 10th sailing vessel and is as nice or better than any production boat i have owned. Opinions are like b--- H----, every body has one. the real proof is the re-sale, no one is giving them away at any age.

That was a round up. Not a capsize, and not a round down. A round up. Not caused by wind; caused by extra weight aloft.

@Bash: you're right. When I posted I was going by memory, after I watched the video again and it goes up. I neglected to correct my post. I now stand corrected, thanks.

Re: Sudden Attraction to Hunters
Just out of curiosity, how many of you think a mid 80's-early 90s 35-38ft Hunter would fair doing a Gulf Of Mexico crossing?

No different than any similarly sized/age Catalina, Beneteau, etc. The only real concern with any boat that old is how well it has been maintained by previous owners. There are far too many of these boats doing precisely what you asked about to dispel any myths perpetuated by internet "experts".
