i express a perfectly logical counter argument to your premise of wanting to be left alone, which i have no problem with, and respect.
all i have said is that as a community, social gatherings are a nessacary evil/bonus of cruising, take it or leave it ,but why travel if you are not prepared to interact with your surroundings?
on a personal note you have now called me a "horrid person",and "a bully"
pelegic called me a "hippie squatter"..........
what a wonderful "pot luck" we are having tonight

This is where an assumption goes wrong. I don't drink, and am fairly introverted. Big events do DO take effort and energy and require re energizing.

More then 4-6 people and it sets me on edge. Plus I don't really drink other then tea and water. Much happier just being out alone in a quiet anchorage somewhere.

Joined a local yacht club only to leave (twice - once because of divorce) because I would rather put money into my own small cruiser and sail whenever I want.

Actually the cat bath is almost a non-event. I have the one cat who does not mind getting a bath.
Mind you, that cat hair on the tongue thing, takes some getting use too....

Just remember, the cruising couple was NOT part of the ARC as you state ATOLL.

Re: Shy Cruising or don't invite me to the Potluck :)
Being somone that can be happy having a beer around a campfire I guess I could be an extrovert. I do usually like socializing. However, when on the boat I do LOVE the quiet anchorage and time with just the wife and stupid dog! I always look at it this way, if when I dinghy by you wave I may stop by on my way back and say hi. A few times we've been invited for drinks or dinner, or we've invited them. Sometimes accepted or declined based on how we're feeling. There is one boat we know by name. We always stop and have a chat, very friendly people. We look for them every year and usually find them but have never had a sit down/drinks/dinner. They are friends none the less.

Re: Shy Cruising or don't invite me to the Potluck :)
Must be a demographic thingy, all these non social types cruising right now. In all the years we have been cruising I never met one of you. I honestly can not recall an offshore cruiser that wasn't at least somewhat social.

Re: Shy Cruising or don't invite me to the Potluck :)
I am definitely in the introvert category. I like meeting people one at a time or 2 or 3. Though I've been known to party hearty in a large group, its very rare.
I take Atoll's recommendation to get to know the locals as a good idea, but that doesn't mean it's easy for me. Doesn't help that I travel alone - no spare person to do half the visiting!
