Definitely smart phones do not transmit on
VHF. True, if you lose your
internet connection it will not have
current data.
A class B remains on my wishlist. And meanwhile the app is a big gain. The vendor lists these features below. If it was just vendor talk I'd take it lightly but coupled with hundreds of hours of using the app--many of those hours in the fastest moving harbor on the US
east coast, I'm holding steady as a big fan.
I haven't run into the "way out of date data scenario".
If you don't have a class B definitely spend the $10 involved on put this on your
phone.
