Love: 15 knots of wind on the beam with seas < 4ft on a bright sunny day
Hate: 30 knots of wind on the nose with seas >10ft on a blustery rainy day

Love: Meeting other cruisers over sundowners
Hate: Saying good bye to friends who come to visit

Re: Name One Thing You Love and One Thing You Hate About Cruising

I love the reflection of the freshly painted topsides on the water on a calm day like a mirrored image and the compliments from other cruisers.

I hate scraping and painting the tatty topsides and the comments from other cruisers!

Re: Name One Thing You Love and One Thing You Hate About Cruising

As a cruiser who frequents Cruisersforum daily, I hate that "Cruisersforum Daily" popup! It bounces above my keypad so I have to scroll it down in order to see the kill button. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

I rue the winter when there are few truly opportune, ideal moments where sailing is desirable.

I detest folks who have no interest in sailing, yet end up on boats as refuge from a too frequently, self inflicted drug abuse problem, and consequential inability to lead a productive life or even find and hold a job. Clutter. Obstructions in the way of real sailors who need a place to anchor. Can't because of an opportunistic diver(s) who constructs, sells or rents illegal "moorings". Eventually no space in which to swing on an anchor left.

Love sailing, especially on long ocean passages. Having said this, I don't much like passages lasting much longer than a week anymore. Maybe an old age thing...

Re: Name One Thing You Love and One Thing You Hate About Cruising

Love: self reliance, other cruisers (mostly), foreign lands and people, cutting the cord to people who think I should live they way they think everyone should live, traveling to exotic places as more than a tourist, preparing a boat my way, and on and on

Hate: the boat when it breaks or cries for dreaded maintenance I don't like to do, the money it costs to do that, running out of money, storms between here and there, boat gremlins, thievery and extortion, uncharted rocks, crew, watches when I am too tired, cold weather watches, seasickness......

Overall, love it. But didn't buy another boat until my memory faded as to why I sold the last one. So the good stuff totally outweighs bad stuff and can't wait to get offshore again. But money is something I can't manufacture and that is the only limiting factor. I love money only because it allows me to go cruising.
