Re: My Boat Scares Me

a few days ago, in my son's passenger seat, i said 'you are gonna hit that curb' to which he replied 'i know how big my car is and exactly how it handles'

as he clearly knows more than i (can you see me rolling my eyes) i didnt bother mentioning i had only bought him the car 3 months ago and he has only had his license for 2 months.

i am always a bit anxious in a new boat regardless of if i am jumping up in length, breadth or depth.

I take it the boat was expensive? Best to have a crap boat, then you can just run it into things

note to self - stay away from crappy boats as they don't feel they have anything to lose

If you wanted to stay away from crappy boats why'd ya buy a hunter?

HA.... sometimes I kill me!

So if I did bump you, would the Hunter just fall apart in small shards of plastic? You're doomed, you know that right?

I was just agreeing with Fearful Girl because I think she's cute.

If YOU were cute Don Lucas, I'd be agreeing with you.

I'm easy ........ oh, and cheap too.

Re: My Boat Scares Me

The very first thing I thought of was the opening post to this thread "It's HUGE and I'm scared!" as I walked up to the trawler that may be the one.

Actually I had a few more words in mind and spoken (but as this is a family show I will let you guess those) when I walked up and realized that the rub rail was over my head. Way over my head. The bow porthole was way, way over my head.

Big, no, HUGE is what I kept thinking. Standing on the fly bridge gave a great view of the marina and I swear a couple other states. And "I am going to dock her without killing a fuel attendant and taking out 50 feet of fueling dock???" "Geez-zauw-ey"

And I look forward to driving her around the Chesapeake Bay very soon.

Re: My Boat Scares Me

Interesting conversation. I'm feeling kind of anxious too. Just bought a Bavaria Vision44 currently in amarina in Alimos, Greece. 25 years since owning and crossing Atlantic from UK in a 37 Prout Catamaran...nothing in between!
So, in a couple of months off to Greece to get to understand all of the new electronics (few and far between in 1989-90), and how to revese into things as they do on Europe.

I am looking forward to the sea trials and the magic effect of salt water shrinking boats.

I went from a 34 Irwin to a Morgan 41 OI. No problems handling her but the first times I washed the deck, I thought she would never end!

Re: My Boat Scares Me

I've always seemed to make big jumps: 18ft Minuet, Kirby 25 and then a CS 40. The interesting thing was going back as I at one point owned all of these at the same time. After the sailing the CS, the Kirby felt like a dinghy and the Minuet like a toy.
