Has anyone been brethalised by the water ppolice , I have been in a speed boat but never under sail ?"

No - 30 odd years sailing NSW/SA, never been approached in a sailboat. Clearly the authorities here are well aware that we sailors are far too responsible to ever drink while boating (or maybe they feel guilty about our maritime infrastructure levy they spend on boat-ramps that we never use - grumble, grouch)

Anyway, Shhhhhh about this - they don't need to be thinking about this stuff

Re: I went for a swim

BAC should be 0.00 for under 18 years old ( its the law)
I know we all started drinking under that but 18 is 18 ,,,

I wonder if the reson i have never been breath tested sailing is the Water police have trouble coming along side when under sail

Re: I went for a swim

Proud new boat owners. Pick up the boat from the P/O and take her across the bay to our first overnight stay. I instruct the wife of two weeks to make sure she wraps the string at the end of the boat hook around her hand to make sure not to lose the hook.
She still has the scar on the top of her hand from where the string cut her, 14 years later.....
Changed procedures have been adopted, including spare boat hook, just in case

I have a Question for the Australians ,,(NSW)
In a car its .05 BAC
In a Power boat its .05 BAC

I dont drink and drive but i wonder if Sail is the same , I would have thought it was .

Would be good to know the true law ..
Cheers all .
Rob .
It's any vessel, from paddle propelled through sail to motor. I've only been pulled over twice, once during the Olympics in 2000 and a few years ago, both in my runabout. In regard to sail, nothing to date although I've been looked at sometimes under motor but never under sail. I think they've worked out it is too difficult to pull a boat under sail over to the 'kerb'.

Re: I went for a swim

I sent a friend swimming at about 30 knots.

I had a mastercraft Prostar back when I was young and slalom skied in competitions. That boat would turn on a dime.

We were riding around, doing a lap around the lake, just enjoying the warm wind coming across our faces. We didn't even have swim trunks on. He was sitting on the doghouse that covered the large V8. As we neared the end of the cove we were in, I turned my head and told him to hold on, trying to prepare him for a tight u-turn. He grabbed the ski pylon with one hand, that was not enough. I never slowed down, I turned left, my friend continued in the direction we were going right out of the boat.
