Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

https://m.facebook.com/groups/159752...composer=false

Don't know if this was already posted as it is year old video. Found it to be "Keystone cops-esque" funny. Unless you're on one of the boats of course.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

Do you guys use GPS or still use the paper charts?

Can't really describe it as funny as it looks. A guy on 45ish mono is trying to Med moore among similar boats. There is plenty of room but he's doing circles, even with bow thruster on or because of it. It appears the combination of wind/current and lack of seamanship. And with each rotation he keeps striking the hulls of the other boats with his bowsprit. With crews of those other boats frantically trying to move the fenders toward the offending boat's bow. Certainly not funny to all involved.

I searched for non fb versions to no avail.

A not uncommon experience in the Med I’m afraid.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

Link points to a Facebook "private group" about:
"For sale > 30ft used power/motor yachts, mono and multi-hull sailboats, liveaboard trawlers, cabin cruisers, sport fishing boats (NO dinghies/outboards/parts/trailers, only the whole boat!) for sale in North, South & Central America and the Caribbean."

That's all anyone will see unless the apply to join the group.
However it sounds as very much like the one that started this long thread:

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3198108

(Another Facebook page, but at least it's an open group, so you should be able to see it.)

Thanks, that's the one.

I somehow missed the prior thread so if moderators want to combine the two treads it would make sense.

You may not mind ponying up your personal info to MarkZ & Co but a lot of us do.

Being insulting to those of us that chose to make decisions other than the ones you would make it not appreciated.

I apologize if anyone was insulted but I am also a privacy nut. And got a fb account when they were not yet asking for tel.# and a shell empty email was enough. I don't think it is possible to do now so I would not be opening one today.

As far as privacy, any site you subscribe to can be hacked and your personal info stolen. The idea is not to not join but to not give out more info than a shell email with a bit different birth date, if required. And of course no real names.

Now, how many members of this forum subscribe to the above precautions? As opposed to having a shell email account on fb.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

Interesting how topics can change, but it's too good an opportunity to pass.

I resigned my membership in the Vancouver Yacht Association because it's forums are all on Facebook.

Here in Portugal, where small businesses try to save money by not having a web page, they use Facebook. I do not use their services or buy their products because I will not open a facebook account.

I was an early adopter of Facebook...and then an early abandoner. It became immediately apparent that every bit of data posted on my site was immediately being reorganized and sold. I do not use Twitter, Whatsapp or Zoom, as they all sell users data.

Contrary to the notion that I am a Luddite, I am technologically selective.

Such is choice.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

Well, following along with the change of topic, just to see how valuable that information is about you....

Google paid Apple US$15billion to remain the default search engine on iDevices this year, and is expected to pay $US20billion in coming years. There are a total of 1 billion active iPhones in the world and 1.65 iDevices (iPhones + iPads +...[data published by Apple]).

Discounting countries where Google isn't the #1 but Apple rides high (say China), there are probably < 1 billion users in the pool for which Google is paying. That's at least $15/year for the data they collect about you through your iDevice just when you use Google to search.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

Ahhhh. I stopped using google as my search engine as well.

What started as a way for institutions and people to communicate without interference or interruption, has degenerated. I try to be as selective as I can and accept that I will be pimped as a result.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

No offence taken at all here- I chuckled. Not a Luddite exactly.
FB etc just looks depressing to me so I have stayed away.

It seems like there’s some sort of proportional law at work where the type of people I least want to hang out with in life are the ones who spend the most time on Facebook, and vice versa. Makes avoidance easy.

Re: Funny unless you're on one of these vessels.

Back to the original topic. Had seen that video before and was amazed but doesn't even come close to this guy who had a whole harbor to play with and still managed catch about five other anchored yachts. NOT on facebook.

PS I did not create the intro that shows in the video so accept no blame for the softcore porn in the link.

Oh, and the icing on the cake. He appears to be flying the Jolly Roger from the starboard flag halyard.
