Down Mexico way

I sail the gulf coast from Florida to Texas on a semi-regular basis. Lots of great places to stop and enjoy.

I would love to do the same on the eastern Mexico coast but all I hear are warnings about every place north of Cancun with the border being no mans land.

Tales of great times 20 years ago are abundant.

Any word of folks enjoying the east coast?

Yeah i would like to know as well. It was a long way from Texas to Exumas earlier this year. Would be nice if there was something closer, south.

Re: Down Mexico way

You can hop down the east coast via google earth and see 4 or 5 jetties. 1st one south of Brownsville Tx. is called La Pesca. There was a cruising guide produced in the 80's by Steve Hamilton. He and 3 other boats checked it out down to Tampico. His boat at the time was a MorganOI 28.
He would enter checking water depth. If it was enough for the others they would go in and hunt up an official.
You were right about the good times back then. The Clear Lake to Vera Cruz Race every 2 years was a lot of bang for the buck. Escalating drug violence and a change in the stateside organizers put an end to that race. Tuxpan was a regular stop for the racers returning from Vera cruz.
Easy entrance. Anchor in the river.
