If shaped correctly, could it not?

You could have just dropped the main like we do on fixed booms and lashed it to the boom with ties.
Maybe practice this for next time, a lot quicker than boom furling.
You can then roll it by hand onto the boom, one at the mast, one in the cockpit when back alongside.
