Close in to the west side of Mexico at night is not a prudent idea. The charts were surveyed in the early 1800's and GPS has proved them to be as much as 2 miles off! Chart plotters are computerized versions of the original paper charts.

I'd suggest that Turtle Bay is a much better fue stop.

Looks like they might have made the decision to pull into a port last night. No way Zee would do that in the dark, so I guess they were just killing time all night and maybe debating over which port to head to. Looks like they are heading into the settlement in Cedros.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

Strange to me. I mentioned that part of Cedros as a possible emergency stopping place before she left, and I do recall she mentioned it was too shallow there.

They made the turn around @ 3:nn AM. Guessing they must have good reason...maybe engine issues or needing more petrol before threading the needle.

looks like they sailed in.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

Not certain why she chose to pull into Cedros... thought that the settlement was pretty well abandoned years ago but still a pier there. Bahia Tortuga is a much better spot with both fuel, provisions and fuel available and very secure harbor... can even get some basic mechanical work done if needed. Entrance can be a little tricky at night, however.
My condolences to you, meburma, a difficult time for you, I'm sure... Capt Phil

Check the pictures of the SE corner if Cedros from Google Earth. There is considerable activity from some sort of mining and loading of large bulk carriers.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

There's an airport and what looks like a sea salt operation there at the southern tip.

Looks like they are headed toward a town farther north. Has a jetty or breakwater (terminology?) but no dock that I see. Not a tourist destination probably, but I has some umbrellas along a narrow rocky beach north of the anchorage.

I hope they don't have mechanical issues, but might have headed there to sail to anchorage because of some issue.

edit,.... didn't realize they were there already, didn't notice the pier either. So far, so good anyway.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

I think the SE loading and airport is restricted, as I was told at least.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

My guess would be fuel stop. Looks like they pulled into the pier at about 0800 for about an hour and just pulled out.

Oops... and then pulled back in ??

Re: Zeehag on the Move

they might have just dropped a hook. lets see if they come out of there soon.
UPDATE: strange they went out to what looked like either an anchor point or headed back out then went back to the dock...maybe a GPS glitch.

David, my sincere condolences to you. Just getting caught up up, i have been a few hundred miles off sore fishing the last few days. My wife works with women leaving domestic abuse, and this is a terrible thing to hear.

looks like they pulled away from the dock for a 2nd time and are now in the middle of the harbor.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

My bet is that she anchored and we are seeing her swing. Don't think she ever came to the dock. If we assume she didn't sail right through the jetty, then we have to move the track a little to the west to move her through the harbor entrance, if we do that, then she doesn't dock either.

Re: Zeehag on the Move

My bet is she had some mechanical difficulty and arrived at the dock...tested a fix running out in harbour...came back the dock to fix some more...tested an adjustment out and back..Hard to say really what is putzing around and what are GPS errors, but zeems to me she is too close to the dock to be anchoring.

Lets keep eyes on this monkeybusiness...
