Two Singlehanders Cross Pacific Japan to SF

Cool Achievement by Two Sailors on Two Boats

I read this article today and have to say it is this kind of long distance single handing sailing that has always been my inspiration as a sailor. While I have not done this kind of single handed voyage yet, it is sailors like these (who were also inspired as young men by another young Japanese sailor) who are "living their dream" and making their dream come true, that inspire me today. Notice their ages!

I will post a short excerpt from the longer article:
Michiaki Koga, 64, and Yasuo Abe, 63, both recently arrived in San Francisco Bay from Japan, having sailed roughly parallel nonstop voyages of 54 and 49 days, respectively.

Ever since reading the book Alone on the Pacific, which chronicled the adventures of young Japanese singlehander Kenichi Horie, who in 1962 became the first person to ever sail solo across the Pacific. He made the Japan-to-San Francisco voyage in a 19-foot boat, a feat that both Koga and Abe found to be inspirational. The dream of following in Horie's wake is now a reality for both men.
