Tropical weather starting to arrive

It's time to put the National Hurricane Center link on your browser's bookmark bar for the season:

Quote:
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
200 PM EDT MON JUN 3 2013

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. A WEAK LOW PRESSURE AREA IS LOCATED OVER THE SOUTH-CENTRAL GULF OF
MEXICO. DISORGANIZED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH
THIS SYSTEM ARE LOCATED WELL EAST OF THE CENTER DUE TO UNFAVORABLE
UPPER-LEVEL WINDS. ANY DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM IS LIKELY TO BE
SLOW TO OCCUR DUE TO THE MARGINALLY FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE...20 PERCENT...OF
BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT DRIFTS
GENERALLY NORTHWARD.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

I went and scouted out my hurricane holes yesterday. I didn't want to wait until a named storm was in the Gulf, like I did last year.

Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

It was pretty disappointing when one of the national magazines wrote an article on hurricane holes and featured one of my favorites. Now it's hard to find a spot in there.

Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

Starting to arrive? May 15th here in the Eastern Pacific we had our first named tropical storm and have had like two or three since then.

I guess it's true that us west coast guys are from hardier stock.

It does get a bit windy on the left coast.

By the way, keep an eye on this thing in the Gulf--it picked up some energy today, though at the moment it just looks like heavy rain for some areas to the north.

Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

we have not had 2 tropical storms--we have had 2 hurrycames. one wanna be tropical storm that dissipated. get it right. big difference between ts and furycame when stuck in one....

we sent babs back to the gom/carib from where she started as just a baby wind...2 times thru tehuantepec....was a weird path. good luck to ye in her path--what is new name gonna be...a something--as is yálls first named one....

this will be a busy year on both coasts.
for the record--the best sailors come from nova scotia. not pacific.

Locally the weather forecasters are all pretty well agreed that that this is just going to be wind and rain and nothing real organized. Wind shear has developsed in the upper atmosphere and they don't expect much except some wind and heavy rain. In fact, it's the rain they're warining about. There are numerous areas here in the larger Tampa Bay area that can have serious "urban flooding" -- the storm sewers can't handle the volume of water.

It happened in Tampa about three days ago I think -- one of the local TV stations showed a video of a manhole cover at the airport bouncing around from the pressure of the water under it. It was still raining very hard and you could see several inches of water accumulated on the street.

storm 2k has some interesting things to say about this system. 40 percent chance of becoming something worthy of a name. is being tracked by a center in alabama now.

You can't please everyone! For a few years, Florida was complaining about their severe drought. Now, the complaint is about too much water coming from the heavens. Make up your minds Floridians! <luv the Keys!>

Here on the East coast of Oz it is now winter, well if you can call it that. It has and they have predicted a very wet winter this year, which is unusual for these parts.

Still kind of ragged looking. Looks like the weekend could be wet.
