Re: "Seaquel" Nordic 40 Aground in Kona

Difficult to reconcile "blind" and "captain."

Discussing paper charts and I pads, he couldn't see wouldn't have changed the situation.

Turning "left" was a clue for me. What experienced captain would explain a maneuver as "turning left."

He was effectively a passenger on the boat and appears to have lacked competent help. It was gracious of him to accept full blame for the accident, but IMHO had more to do with trying to making his crew feel less guilty than who had the actual responsibility for running aground.

I sometimes wish there was no gps.......then these discussions would be moot and the anchorages would be 4 those who can use a sextant and get within 2 miles of there destination. Anchorages would be solitary again

If one of them is not a seeing eye dog I think you might be exposed.

It's reported that Berg has a new boat, the uncapable Dani has been replaced by a new first mate who is reportedly a fan of Android navigation systems...

When asked, "How was the weather on the shakedown cruise" The trusty mutt er... mate simply replied, "Ruff! Ruff!"

(sorry folks that was all too easy...)
