WLIW21 Sets Sail July 5th with Sailing Channel Theater, a new high sea adventure series

Produced by TheSailingChannel.TV, the original series will be a broadcast and online destination for all sailing enthusiasts. June 25, 2009 (New York, NY) WLIW21 announces the exclusive broadcast premiere of Sailing Channel Theater, a new production from TheSailingChannel.TV, and the only television series of its kind.

Premiering Sunday, July 5 at 1 p.m. (ET) on WLIW21, the half-hour series will feature classic and critically acclaimed films that capture the magic and adventure of sailing. Episodes will stream online at thesailingchannel.tv and wliw.org/sailing beginning the week of July 5.

In the season opener, Cruising Has No Limits, legendary cruising couple Lin and Larry Pardey, who have sailed over 185,000 miles, will take viewers on their exciting ocean escapades to Southern Africa, Brazil and Ireland. The film follows the intrepid couple on a voyage of a lifetime that will whet anyone’s appetite for the life-enriching possibilities offered by cruising. Shot on board their engineless Taleisin, and on location at their home base in New Zealand and in three other continents, Cruising breaks down the basics for nautical novices with practical lessons on how to go beyond the shores of the world’s oceans and explore local cultures.

“Sailing is one of the all-time favorite sports in the world. Combined with pitch perfect cinematography and the thrill of a nautical adventure, this visually stunning television series lives up to the standards that WLIW21 is known for,” said John Servidio, Acting General Manager, WLIW21. “It’s a no-brainer to team with TheSailingChannel.TV to share with viewers the joy of this wonderful sport.”

Future episodes of Sailing Channel Theater will feature stories covering all aspects of maritime culture, including famous seafaring personalities and rarely-told nautical history.
