The Japanese are the big players in the Southern Ocean and this thread is about the Southern Ocean. I do not give Norway a pass and neither does my mother- who is Norwegian by the way.

Facts just get in the way of good rants! Besides we all know that once it is on the internet, especially CF, it is a fact!

So here is a group actually doing something to try to save the oceans and not just talking about it.
Should be more of it before it's all over for the worlds fish specis.
Japan have just paked up in Taji after murdering over 1000 dolphins,
Many were also kept and sold to theme parks for $100,000 each.
Japan fisheries are the oceans rapists

I am sure there a couple of million Hindus around who could muster similar and equally sincere arguments about Aussie Beef KILLLERS AND RAPISTS!
"Doing something" is all very nice, but only a matter of time before someone gets killed in the Southern Ocean over this - on which side will be a matter of luck. but probably also worth remembering that Japan still has the death penalty........

The international "community" are cowards with no conviction of character. They are corrupted by power and money...and since neither the Japanese whaling nor the terrorist acts of SS have any impact on the economies of the major world powers, they will not act. If any of this caused a financial loss for the US, UK, other Europeans, Russia, etc...it would stop in a heart-beat.
We should all pee in their sinks!

Re: Pirates operating in Southern Ocean........
Of course it's "piracy" . . . as defined in numerous documents.
Sometimes laws and definitions are inadequate for special circumstances. This is, no doubt a "special" circumstance.
BUT . . . as a society, we're bound . . . stuck to the words we place in books.
No wonder that President Clinton copped out when he intimated that "it depends on what the meaning of is . . . is".
Rosa Parks(a black woman), was breaking the written law when she refused to give her seat to a black man on a public bus.

Re: Pirates operating in Southern Ocean........
i met a fella in marina del rey who had just painted his ship black and filled bow with concrete for ramming japs, he said...i wasnot impressed with this intervention technique in 1991 and i am not impressed with this intervention procedure now. the black hulled ships are engaging in acts of war, and the japanese are trying to maintain their albeit unpopular ways of their culture.
who is wrong...who is right---
is either right..
are both wrong--if so, two wongs do not make a wight....oh that is chinese, sorry....
neither ship is sailing. both are warring...
yes is piracy and terrorism and yes is wrong. both sides may be wrong. why does someone feel need to police world without the authority to do so.
doesnt make that right, either..
i need to go sailing again
......

Re: Pirates operating in Southern Ocean........
seems to be enough whales around based on the reports and claims of whales sinking sailboats

Re: Pirates operating in Southern Ocean........
I fully support Sea Shepherd's mission to protect the whales, and I admire their courage for doing it. I had the good fortune to speak briefly with some crew members at dockside in Wellington, NZ, last month and made a small monetary donation to their cause. I don't have to agree with all of their tactics to recognize that no other organization or government has the intestinal fortitude to enforce the ban.

Re: Pirates operating in Southern Ocean........
Kinda hard for me to say much about this crap! I had family involved in the whaleing Industry in California. Both uncles and my Father worked in some way in whaleing. I hated the whale bizz then and still do today ! The smell alone is enough to make ya hate it let alone the waste of these gentle animals. But the Japs at least have some way around the rules , which is wrong, but the Sea Shepherds have nothing but there own rules that they are working by !! There super bad seamanship just plain pisses me off! I was taught to always think of my crews safety first, these idiots get young and dumb kids to work aboard there ships and then put them in harms way without any thought about there safety! Thats what puts me on the side of the whalers, even tho I hate whaleing!! Im glad that some body took a stand and called a spade a spade by lableing them what they are Pirates!! I hope some end will come to this stupid war, cus thats what it seems to be right now !!A war

Re: Pirates operating in Southern Ocean........
So "pirate" is now an all-purpose mad-at-them word like "terrorist", huh?
Dang. Outside of Blackbeard or Somalia, I always thought "pirates" were the folks on the boat two docks over with the skull'n'crossbones flag, a paper parrot, and a bottomless drink blender.
