Many of the pirate gangs in the Gulf of Guinea are offshoots of militant groups that once operated in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta before they agreed an amnesty in 2009. ...”

Good to see the reduction going via the Red Sea route because that is by far the area of most interest to cruisers here. I wonder if it will get to the point of being safe again.
