Panama Check-in Puerto Armuelles?

Any southbound west coast cruisers recently checked in to Panama at Armuelles and can describe that experience, good or bad? Best way to get ashore and where? Did you get the cruising permit there and how long is it good for?

On the cruising permit: It allows the boat to be in Panama for a year. ($180 plus some local fees, we paid $185)

Immigration will stamp the passport which then typically is good for 6 months.

When we went south out of Golfito we didn't clear in at Panama City for a couple of weeks. Stopped at the western islands and Las Perlas on the way. There was no hassle from customs and immigration folks.
