BTW, last year I've
read this book about modern piracy, amazing read but as I read I kept on wondering why almost no one is doing the obvious: arming their crews and ships? In most cases those pirates use RIBs and are armed with AK-47s and knives - doesn't take much firepower do deter such a threat, especially from a modern cargo ship.
In the book it is mentioned that Russians and Israelis are doing just this: their crews are armed and trained to use their arms. The author says pirates learned about this the hard way and now usually don't try to board ships under Russian or Israeli flag. Pretty surprising, isn't it?
