Re: Mystery Capsized Hull Floating Off Florida Keys
Maybe this vessel was wanting to deliver at the Florida Keys in any case. Clearly it is best not to arrive this way up. Or only with the last part of the original hull. Cheers A

Re: Mystery Capsized Hull Floating Off Florida Keys
Irrespective of other observations, isn't that a pretty clean cut along the rib line and carried through the keel? Would it be possible to look like that if it had broken apart? Of course, still an unsolved mystery, other than it being chopped up and washed out, notwithstanding the fact that the props would seemingly been taken before now.

IRMA took down many boats. Your pix rules out many but iS far from an ID.

Re: Mystery Capsized Hull Floating Off Florida Keys
Maybe West Palm Beach did a bad job with cleaning up their mess, twice! They arrested a guy that ran aground and booked him for DUI, not allowing him to call to tow his boat. They didn't call tow boat to get the yacht off the sand either and it further washed onto the beach until weeks later the town decided to chop it up and discard it. West Palm caused an environmental spill and the destruction of a yacht due to their negligence, IMO... They don't let cars in the middle of the street after a DUI arrest, or maybe they do in West Palm!

Mostly in agreement with the salvage proponents. Could it be the hull had been cut as part of the process, but the props had not yet been removed when a hurricane arrived?

Re: Mystery Capsized Hull Floating Off Florida Keys
The bottom and props look brand new. The first thing that comes to mind is deck cargo got dumped. This way everybody that cares already knows what was this boat's fate. Thus, no need for reporting the boat or crew as missing.

Older hull design and construction technique; thin layer of glass over wood with no modular components or composites visible. Six blade, progessive pitch, painted steel props and shafts. Keel board appears to be cut. Probably an incomplete salvage operation turned flotsam by the hurricane.

Re: Mystery Capsized Hull Floating Off Florida Keys
Been drifting off the coast of south Florida for three weeks? Guaranty someone's keeping an eye on those wheels and shafts, and had a look at the logistics of getting them off...that they've not been salvaged already would seem to indicate there're some complicating issues, to say the least.

Re: Mystery Capsized Hull Floating Off Florida Keys
Nothing complicated about it. Typically, you take a reciprocating saw and cut away everything you don't want into chunks that will fit in a dumpster. Whatever is left over, you take into the shop. Easy peasy.

Phillip,
How did you make out with the hurricane?
I was following your trip home.
