So was it where the satellite info suggested they would find it?
I guess there will be more in the BA press over the next few days.

Thanks; I know you have sailed a long way to get where you are, hence I did not want to miss the opportunity of learning something.

I do not know where they expected to find the raft or the boat, but the raft was found on Oct 12th at about 29 56 S 46 18W (which is where I plot the "200NM East of Tramandai" reported location), or only about 46 miles S of the boat position shown in the sat image dated Sep 28th (29 14 S 46 13W).

That Sep 28 position is in turn about 238NM NE of the last reported position of the boat at the time of distress ( 32 45 S 49 34W according to some sources, or 200NM East of Rio Grande according to others).

Cheers

Re: Missing yacht off the Brazilian coast

So the satellite info pointed them in the right direction or so it would seem.

With the raft being waterlogged I would expect it to be influenced primarily by currents... however an empty raft would be under the influence of the wind... with no human ballast the 'ballast pockets'(?) under the hull would have little effect... if there were strong winds in the area.

I think it was 2009/10 that a singlehanded Argentine yacht was lost on that same bit of coast... a fixed wing aircraft had located the yacht and there was a photo ( published ) of the sailor getting into his raft... sadly neither he or his raft were ever seen again.

Well, thats one up to the crowd searching brigade. Well done.

Far more important question to be answered is: Why did the yacht sink?
