We had a very sad event here back in 2006 where a Bluff
fishing boat sank and 6 people drownd. It was the worst maritime
accident in 40yrs. (which is pretty good on that side of looking at it) The report has just been released and it placed a lot of the blame on the poor design of the
deck scuppers not being able to cope with the two large waves that hit the
boat, along with a lot of
gear up high making the CG higher than it should have. Some believe this boat is much the same as many
commercial fishing boats in NZ and are arguing for thougher regulation and control.
