Re: Largest Iceberg soon to Calf

The moment it calves, even if it stays together for a while, the ocean's waters will be at it, slowly melting its edges.

I bet the scientists down there put tracking devices on it: they'll want to know what it does and where it goes.

Re: Largest Iceberg soon to Calf

I remember a feasibility study done in the 1980's about Towing Icebergs to areas of drought and the wastage from melting was insignificant.

Thank god it never happened as commercial R/O systems became more cost effective when power was cheap

The brainchild of Australian billionaire Clive Palmer, the Titanic II was initially meant to be completed last year (2016), but was delayed. Palmer has confirmed that he is still committed to the project, with a maiden voyage set for 2018.
The maiden voyage will differ from the original Southampton to New York route. The Titanic II will travel from Jiangsu to Dubai.

Likely he's so stressed about climate change he forgets geological facts.. all land masses have at one time or the other been under a sea/ocean in the past.. hence large salt deposits on land.. massive deforestation means increased erosion which results in soil layers being eaten away and deposits exposed.. hell.. even the Himalaya's were once under some pre-historic ocean once.
Everyone seems obsessed with this Silicon Valley/Corporate/Political approach of lets set a Carbon Tax.. then we can swap credits with low carbon countries and carry on as before..
This serves no purpose.. it does not reduce anything and the only people who end up paying this tax is us.. the Consumer's who are constantly being told to buy S**t we did not know we couldn't live without.. any tax on a producer is transferred to us in higher prices..
The only change that can work is Organic.. and that I'm afraid is beyond mankind's ability or comprehension.. else we would not be in the mess we are in..
Any of you 'Sailors' ever noticed how much more often it rains at sea over the last couple of decades..?? and you mud dwellers how much less it rains during 'Monsoons' in some parts of the world than it used to..?? and flooding where it never used to happen..??
Balls in the air..

Everything ends sooner or later.. natural death through disinterest.. or by moderation.
Would you rather no one ever posted anything..

Re: Largest Iceberg soon to Calf

I see all the usual suspects have gathered here and circling waiting to pounce on their editorial prey. Some I hadn't seen for some time and had hoped they'd found a life somewhere.
I guess the best we can do is see and even bet on how long this CC thread will last.

G' day, everybody,

Would it surprise anybody here if someone tries to make money from this expected event?

Yes Ann.....I expect China will soon start building under the guise of scientific research.

Then once the defense capabilities are established they will put nuclear propulsion in Nacelles to position wherever they like as the largest oil exploration platform and frozen food hub in the world

Trump plans to float a boom around it and make China pay for it.
