Re: Jamaica Warning

I spend a lot of time aboard in Port Antonio, Portland parish (lowest crime and most beautiful parish in Jamaica)
Cruisers should also check out the crimes against cruising boats at the Caribbean Safety and Security net here:
safetyandsecuritynet.org

Of the 100 or so cruising boats that have visited Jamaica that I have spoken to, the vast majority enjoy it.

Re: Jamaica Warning

We went there a couple of times in 2018 (6 weeks in total). At that time Montego Bay was advised against by US and Canada governments. We went to Port Antonio - a port of entry in Portland parish and claims to be the safest town in Jamaica.

Port Antonio is not highly developed and my wife felt safe walking the streets at night. Fuel is easy to get and cheap, but you have to pay US25 a night to anchor and the marina was US50 a night (and good) - we are 15m oa.

I had to have a new gearbox flown in from the UK and it all went smoothly, with delivery accompanied by a customs guy.

We got the real flavour of Jamaica and had a great time. Bus to James Bond Beach. Don't miss Piggys for street food!

Re: Jamaica Warning

Same as Venezzuela now a no go area. In 2008 and 2009 it was fine then the marina manager was kiiled so we stopped going there.
