French canals

Because of a major change in our situation, I need to bring our 42 Broom motor boat back to the UK from the South of France. Has anyone any experience of doing this using the Rhone and the canals via Paris to Le Havre?

Because we would be paying a delivery crew, time is of the essence. Does anyone know how long is it likely to take them?

Re: French canals

Distant shores did the trip from Le Harve south. You might see if they have any suggestions or input. Here is a summary video of their trip.

Re: French canals

Have not done it myself but have been planning this for years (Covid delayed that trip) and studied the options a lot.

First question is draft. From all reports the depths listed in the charts for many of the canals are quite optimistic even in the best of times and during a dry year even worse.

There are several members on this forum with experience on the canals but you might also want to check out the forums on Yachting and Boating World which is more Eurocentric and has many members that do the canals, some long term liveaboards in various canal areas.

Re: French canals

Done the Canal De Midi, Med to Bordeaux in 2 weeks. Could probably get it done in less than 10 days if keen. Max draft about 1.6m and height 3.5m. coastal delivery back to Uk from there, faster than Canals and easy.
