Fijian President Abrogates Constitution, Dismisses Judiciary, Restricts Movement
A few hours ago Fijian President Iloilo abrogated the 1997 national constitution. This occurred a couple hours after the Prime minister, a military commander who seized power in 2006, stepped down after a 3 judge appeals panel ruled his government was illegal.
Fiji has been listed as a risky destination since the coup by many governments.
My boat is at Vuda. Ive talked to one friend in Suva who said it was not effecting him. Iam concerned but would not change plans unless I hear first hand accounts. Customs prior to this were a hassel and could make one hesitant to go there. I like Fiji and will be glad to get back. One has to be carefull-but that is true for most places. Ward
