This was just posted on another forum.

Quote:
Mixed news I'm afraid.

One man rescued by a merchant ship - name unknown at this stage. The rescued man has told the rescuers that the other two men went overboard without life-jackets. The search is continuing.

Reunion MRCC is co-ordinating the search - Phone: 262 262 434343.

I will update with any further news to hand.

The coordinates that Sad Daughter posted show a location 240 miles east of Madagascar. GRIB data shows that the position was very close to a tropical cyclone, which is now moving out of the area to the southeast. Wind and waves should be abating at this point, which will of course aid the search and rescue efforts.

New Information

I've received an email from family that the person recovered was Leo Sherman. Just thought I would share what we know so far.

This is so sad.

Sad Daughter posted this on another forum.

Quote:
We learned that they have ended the seach. We are heartbroken.

I have spoken with the French Navy and the US Coast Guard and confirmed this with them. Your information is inaccurate, which has been the case with many of the reporters covering this. Please stop posting false information. It is painful enough for my family right now.

I sailed those sea's with my father when i was younger, they can be rough.
And even if they lost the dingy and only have their life-vests the sea's are very warm this time of year.
Wishing you, him and his crew all the best.

My son was aboard the HC-130P that was involved in the search from Djibouti. They all wish for the best. Our hopes and prayers.

Re: Father Missing Off Madagascar

I guess this story made the news today because Sherman spoke at the Los Angeles Adventurers Club, a few details (some that don't necessarily make sense - maybe that's understandable from the point-of-view of being upside down in a cyclone) that I haven't seen before.

Re: Father Missing Off Madagascar

Interesting tale of a pitch-poled catamaran. Wonder how the other crew man disappeared it's not explained in the article. The lone survivor was lucky that the ship hung around until he poked his head up. Too bad about the 5 grand and the Captain's manuscript too.
