Email from Belgian Customs re Red Fuel

Hot off the press..

Quote:
Dear Sir,

According to the Royal Decree of June 28th 2015, article 54, 2° states clearly that liquid motor fuels present, sold or used to drive an explosion or combustion engine of private pleasure crafts cannot contain any denaturates nor markers, on ilnad waterways or Union waters.

Sincerely,

Vraag :
Sir,
I am a UK resident and boat owner. I want to visit Belgium in my boat. However, I am aware of recent events where UK boats have been boarded by
your officials who have issued fines because the boat was carrying red (marked) fuel.
As I understand matters, it is an offence to use fuel for pleasure on which duty has not been paid. Also that you interpret this to mean marked fuel and
that you will issue fines if there are traces of marked fuel on board a boat.
My question is simple. How can I comply with your requirements given that it is not possible to buy white (duty paid) fuel in any boatyard in the UK.

Re: Email from Belgian Customs re Red Fuel

Well, Tomahawk, you could not fill your tanks, possibly have them cleaned, and plan to hip tie the dinghy, with a petrol motor, and use that to berth the boat.

Granted, it must seem very cruel, annoying, and possibly a reason to not go there, but they aren't responsible for solving your problem. Only you can do that. Or, not, if it's too much hassle or expen$e.

You'd have to get Belgians to agitate for a change, for the British based boats; as a visitor, a foreigner, you're powerless.. However, the people there in the marine industry could be interested in facilitating things for the Brits.

It's good of you to warn everybody by these threads.
