Wow. What happened with these guys..."The Indian Ocean attack follows the deaths of four Americans last month after their yacht was taken"?
I was out of action - anyone hear about it, know where I can read about it?

Surely. But for a convoy of some 30 or 40 boats - who knows?

The successful resolution of this hijacking does add a couple of points to the "safe room" concept. I'm glad their safe, and wonder how they were able to reinforce a room well enough that the pirates were unable to enter, or successfully retribute when the security forces came aboard?

My understanding is that some of those safe rooms are well hidden.

Now there's a sight I'd love to see: a convoy of 40 $500/month cruisers!
The mind boggles. I doubt the USN has enough ships to keep track of that action.

No casualties reported????
Did they throw them over the side?
Here's hoping.

Re: Dutch Couple on Yacht Pirated, and then Resuced!
that is awsome, i was just thinking the other day that some ex special forces guys could make a ton of money doing something like this.
also, what is stopping them from killing all the pirates? what govt would actualy try to bring charges against them? Or, is there a crime (legaly, mortals aside), with striping the pirates of thier weapons and putting them on a motorless raft 200 NM out to sea?
somehow I think guys like this have a good chance of getting away with any action they took (aside from major tactical f*ck-ups)

I'd say 99% of the guys in my favorite bar are ex-SEALs or Rangers. We used to have a South African spec ops officer type guy too. Fred, are you out there? We need you. And they'd all work for beer, pizza and free ammo. Even Fred. Apparently they all have AR15s at home already. And, as a bonus, they all have vast experience at sea. Captains Courageous. Even the $500/mo flotilla could afford them.

Re: Dutch Couple on Yacht Pirated, and then Resuced!
Has anyone heard anything about the Dutch vessel? I am presuming it was quite large because of the 'safe room' and the money to pay for the mercs, but would be curious to know more about it.
Regarding the Mercs . . . actually I would consider this close to a FAIL for them. Someone must have been asleep to allow 6 pirates to boats their client's vessel. Their website says one of the primary reason to hire them (rather than a merc how is on board the client vessel) is that they have their own boats and can intercept pirates before they get close to or board or attack the client vessel.
