pirate Dredging Salt Ponds - Hampton, VA

What a wonderful site for many of my sailing friends this moriing. The dredge has arrived and begun its dirty duty. The channel to the Salt Ponds in Hampton, VA which is right off the bay is now 5'6" at mlw but will be dredged to 8' mlw by the middle of Februry. Now they will all have to get busy and get their boat back in order. Also stopped by the Salt Ponds Marina and saw docks being repaired and restrooms being painted looks like they are looking for and early spring. Aren't we all.

Not familiar with this area...is the dredging to help with commercial traffic?

Is salt ponds liveaboard friendly?

They have really good rates. I'm looking for a place for the summer as close to VA Beach as possible.

The dredging has been an issue for at least the last five years. Apparently the city estimates it will cost 1.8 million over ten years to keep the channel open. The reality is that it will be much more than that to fix the problem and lessen the frequency of dredging. Understandably they are reluctant to spend that much money on such a small public waterway. They ARE, however, more than willing to collect the 3.5 million, PER YEAR, in tax revenues from the home owners and business along the water way. More at...
